IP Parking Delivers Seamless PARCS Installation at Charleston International Airport

IP Parking is proud to announce the successful completion of a future-proof Parking Access and Revenue Control System (PARCS) installation at Charleston International Airport (CHS), South Carolina's (USA) largest and busiest airport. In 2024 alone, CHS welcomed a record-breaking 6,295,439 travelers, underscoring the need for seamless and efficient parking solutions. As a key hub for both civilian and military aviation, CHS serves millions of passengers annually—making efficient parking operations a priority.

The airport's primary goal for this project was to make parking easier and more convenient for travelers by implementing a seamless, user-friendly system that would improve operations and enhance the passenger experience. With that in mind, CHS selected IP Parking to deliver a flexible, reliable, and innovative solution.

 

A Strategic Approach to Installation

IP Parking, alongside its trusted installation partner DMV Parking, completed the installation at record speed. From contract signing to the first lane going live, the project moved at an impressive pace of just two months. Even more notably, the first parking facility was installed within three days of arriving on-site, demonstrating the efficiency and expertise behind the deployment.

John Robison, Director of Landside Operations at CHS, praised the process, stating, "This has been the best project and the easiest installation job I've been involved in during my 38 years in the business."

 

To achieve this rapid deployment without disrupting airport operations, IP Parking implemented a streamlined installation strategy. Before arriving on-site, the team built a fully functional test environment, ensuring that all hardware and software were pre-configured and ready to deploy upon arrival.

 

The plug-and-play design of IP Parking's technology, combined with careful coordination with CHS and DMV Parking, enabled a seamless transition without impacting travelers. Installation was strategically phased and timed to avoid peak travel periods, allowing CHS to maintain full parking operations while upgrading to a cutting-edge system.

 

"When I've been out in the field observing operations, customers have consistently commented on how clean and professional the installation looks. Everything was done in a first-class way," Robison added.

 

Future-Proof Technology Designed for CHS

With the new PARCS system in place, Charleston International Airport now benefits from a fully scalable and adaptable parking solution designed to support both current operations and future growth. The IP2 Xperience terminals, installed across 16 lanes, spanning two garages and two surface lots, feature customizable 15-inch touchscreens, delivering an intuitive and user-friendly experience for travelers.

 

CHS has also implemented IP Parking's IP Payment System (IPS), allowing for mobile, app-free payments that offer seamless convenience for drivers. Valuable real-time occupancy insights, delivered via API integration, enable CHS to optimize parking management and maximize facility utilization.

 

Beyond cutting-edge technology, what sets this system apart is its unmatched flexibility. CHS now has the capability to run multiple parking flow types based on its operational needs. Whether the airport chooses to implement free-flow, ticketed, or ticketless entry and exit, the system is fully equipped to handle each model seamlessly. Even more importantly, CHS can modify these flow types at any time—whether that's tomorrow, next month, or years down the road—without requiring a major system overhaul.

Each facility within the airport can also operate independently, meaning garages and surface lots can be configured with different access and revenue control strategies to best serve travelers, staff, and other users. This flexibility ensures that CHS can adapt its parking operations to evolving demands while maintaining a seamless and efficient experience.

 

A key goal for CHS was to implement a system that simplifies parking operations while enhancing convenience for travelers. Robison confirmed the success of this goal, stating, "Our customers love how easy the system is to use. We almost never get calls from customers needing help with the equipment. It's been a great environment to be in."
